Go-Karting

Queen Mary, University Of London (QMUL)

About

The Go-Karting club (QM Motorsport) was set up to provide students with adrenaline-fuelled racing experiences. It is not only aimed at the racing fanatics but also at the students who haven't had the opportunity but desire to race. This is all without the extortionate prices that are usually associated with karting sessions. There are two sides to the club. The first includes more relaxed social karting. We plan on visiting tracks close to campus in groups (in accordance with Covid-19 rules) and using rental karts provided, in order to learn the basics of karting and improve from lap to lap.We also take part in the BUKC, the British University Karting Championship. This is the second part of the club, for serious racers willing to take on the challenge of real race-karts in a competition environment. The BUKC is a nationwide high-performance karting championship for university students across the United Kingdom. The karts used in the BUKC are simply the finest fleet of “arrive-and-drive” karts in the world. They are nothing like the normal indoor or outdoor karts that many are used to. The karts can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 4.5 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 70mph. If you have never been in a 2-stroke kart before, you’ll never forget your first time! For more information about the championship visit: http://www.bukc.co.uk.It takes place annually, starting with practice sessions in October and race sessions in February with more than 300 participating students from all Unis across the UK at each race day. There are three categories (Premier Class, Intermediate Class, and Rookie Class), so all drivers can race in a competitive environment. It is organised by 3T Racing Ltd. Results 2019/20 In last-years BUKC, Queen Mary qualified and competed in the Premier Class, the highest tier of the BUKC for the very first time. One of the race events even featured a win! We worked together across teams to improve our lap times and race positions. Racing at PFI International Kart Circuit   SessionsTest Days4 test days are scheduled for the BUKC (near London)Test days take place from mid-October to late January. Each driver gets a minimum of 30 minutes’ on track.Fee: £60 p. driver. ChampionshipBased on the results of the test days, we will allocate the drivers in 2 or 3 different teams (of 4 drivers). There are 4 race events across the UK and the QMUL karting team aims to participate in all of them to achieve the best possible result.Price: Around £110 per driver per race event.Equipment: BUKC will provide you with racewear at each event.
