QMBL FencingWe are a friendly three-weapon club focused on participation and development from BOTH Queen Mary and Barts and the London Students. Our priority is to make you feel part of the fencing family, enjoy the sport of fencing and encourage wider participation to competitions. Whether you are a total beginner or a highly competitive member, we will do our best to cater to your needs so that you may improve your abilities and reach your personal goals. Training sessions are not only fun but also highly competitive as well to deliver the highest standards of results when it comes to BUCS events. With the current status of the pandemic, we will take precautions to minimise the risk to our members.Taster session (for new members)Please follow @qmblfencing on instagram or join our private FB group (QMBL Fencing Club) for the latest updates! Contact fencingqmbl@gmail.com for any queries.  Date: Week after the freshers fair (Likely Wednesday) but if you can't make it, don't worry, any of your first session is free! Activities: 3 x 30-minute sessions run by experienced committee members. If you're experienced, let us know, we'll invite you to our pre-season training too! To Bring: Wear long Sports bottoms (i.e. no shorts or leggings). Fencing kit provided.Training Equipment: We provide all of the fencing equipment. All you need is a pair of tracksuit bottoms, a t-shirt and trainers. Please do not wear shorts! Commitment levels required: Team/committee members should aim to attend 3 Saturday sessions per month minimum as well as matches and Wednesday sessions where appropriate. Non-team/ Social fencers should aim to attend 2 Saturday sessions per month, Wednesdays optional. Novice fencers will typically be part of the GetActive sessions ran on Wednesdays. Those who have attended majority of it may be invited to join the team on Saturday Trainings for sparring sessions.CompetitionsThe club participates in BUCS, BUCS Individuals, the QMBL Novice Cup, London International University Fencing Competition and London Regional Intermediates. We are hoping that Paris X-Systra will take place this year! These events are perfect if you want to try competitions for the first time or want to represent the university. Big competitions such as the BUCS individuals are normally done together by the club with travel and accommodation planned for by the committee.Key dates: London Regional in January and July BUCS Matches: Wednesdays during term time BUCS Individuals (at Sheffield) in February  Merger Cup (Barts vs QM) in March QMBL National Novice in March/April LIUF in JuneRecreational Fencing and SocialsQMSU also runs an Introductory Fencing course for those looking to learn. It's a 10 week course led by an expert coach and costs just £25 (TBC) so is a really fun and affordable way to get involved. Sabre:Lite is also a Get Active weekly session which is a simplified version of Fencing and is a great introduction to the sport. We have socials every Saturday after training and have post-match socials on Wednesdays. How do new members join? Join the Facebook group and get in contact with the club committee members + join our WhatsApp group chat (link will be released during freshers fair) Attend the taster session - this first session is free! Purchase your subs - at the Hub (Mile End), BLSA reception (Whitechapel) or online. Enjoy!
