At HS2 we offer a two-year rotational graduate programme, providing you with the opportunity to stretch and challenge yourself across various programme related placements. This programme is designed around enabling you to get as much experience as possible across different teams within a particular business area. Our graduate programme will consist of four 6 months’ placements across these functions. During the programme, each graduate will be assigned at least one extra-curricular project, collaborating with the innovation team. After completion of the 2-year graduate programme graduates will be transferred into a role within the same discipline, but not necessarily the same business area.

We have a total of 6 graduate opportunities available in Birmingham all of which will require travel to various site locations across the HS2 line of route. Graduate opportunities will be available across a variety of HS2 teams including but not limited to those listed below. After the assessment stage, we will assign successful candidates accordingly based on business requirements.

Area of Responsibilities

Business, Operations & Strategy


Land & PropertyThe placement rotation will cover operations, property management or fall within Business Delivery and Development, driving improvements in the performance of the Directorate through People and Process initiatives, effective Business Management, and delivery of priority projects.Procurement & Supply ChainThe placement rotation will cover the full lifecycle of the procurement process from the initial market engagement, through the procurement process, post contract management and supplier relationship management to contract closureSupply Chain Management: The team lead supplier engagement, assess supplier capacity and capability during procurement and deliver supplier risk monitoring, deep dive supply chain analyses and contractor engagement.Procurement Team: The Procurement team run the procurement process covering Pre-Qualification Questionnaires, Invitation to Tenders, Contract Award.Contract Management: The Contract Management team mobilise and commercially manage contracts with suppliers.Supplier Relationship Management: The team ensure that long term, sustainable relationships are in place with our strategic and key suppliers.CommercialAs we have a number of contracts in various stages such as the rolling stock manufacture and supply agreement (a bespoke agreement delivering a minimum of 54 High Speed Trains to run on the HS2 and conventional rail infrastructure), there is a unique opportunity to gain pre and post contract commercial experience across a range of contract types learning the skills to build a career in commercial.The placement rotation will include but will not be limited to:contract management, change management and project managementSupport on Tender Evaluation processes,Managing Contract spend and delivering value,Managing risks, Contractor/Supplier Engagement,Working closely with the Project Delivery teams
