🚀 Internship

Production Engineer Internship, June - September

Jane Street

Oct 5

🚀 Off-cycle

Rolling basis

Our internships center around hands-on mentorship and a robust educational curriculum that includes challenging classes, interactive sessions, and small group discussions. Over the course of 10-12 weeks, you’ll be matched with full-time employees in your role who will mentor you as you tackle real-world projects they design. You’ll also be able to access our physical and virtual educational resources, attend guest speakers and social events, and hopefully get a real sense of what it would be like to work here full time.

If you’ve never thought about a career in finance, you’re in good company—many of us were in the same position before working here. If you have a curious mind, a collaborative nature, and a passion for solving interesting problems, we have a feeling you’ll fit right in.

Area of Responsibilities

Software Engineering

As a Production Engineering intern, you’ll divide your time in the same way our full-timers do: between support rotations where we actively resolve live issues, and software engineering projects that improve our support infrastructure. Of course, we don’t expect you to know how to resolve live issues on your own yet, so we’ve designed a variety of hands-on activities that represent the variety of issues we resolve during support rotations. You’ll also learn how we use OCaml (our primary development language) in our day to day work, and gain exposure to the libraries and tools that are foundational to our internal systems. The majority of your time will be spent on software engineering projects. Some projects improve the reliability of existing applications, while others involve building something new. You might write code to improve the stack of tools and systems for managing, monitoring, and configuring our trading infrastructure, or develop applications that improve our ability to support a wide variety of internal tools and systems. The rest of your time will focus on the support issues we tackle every day. This can include shadowing and discussing live incidents, participating in post-mortems, and taking part in support simulations. These activities will demonstrate how we monitor the health of our trading infrastructure, configure internal systems, and communicate with external parties to ensure trading is operating safely and smoothly. You’ll see firsthand how we work with Trading, Technology, and Infrastructure desks to understand and react to issues they experience during the trading day. If you'd like to learn more, you can read about Production Engineering at Jane Street.
