Description

The UK Legal Department provides legal support to businesses, support functions and senior management within ABN AMRO UK Group and, in doing so, supports the effective management and control of legal risks taking into account the objectives of the UK Group, relevant commercial issues and in proportion to the risks and value of the UK Group.

The Legal Department supports ABN AMRO and its businesses in realising their objectives taking into due consideration the legal risks. Legal is the exclusive and independent provider of legal services for ABN AMRO and part of the 2nd Line of Defence. The Legal Mandate requires that the business involves Legal in product development; standard legal documentation; transactions where non-standard legal documentation is used, and in certain cases where standard documentation is used; corporate matters; incidents, claim handling and litigation; labour affairs (employment); and engaging external legal counsel.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of senior regulatory lawyers, the intern will support the ABN AMRO UK Change of Law programme to identify relevant changes of law and regulation under the new UK legal frameworks post-EU exit, including in areas such as financial regulation (the main component of the work), employment law, data protection, new financial crime and money-laundering rules, and corporate law. The intern will also be asked to undertake small research and legislation-checking tasks in relation to the Change of Law programme and to assist the rest of the legal team in ad hoc research or contractual review queries.

Requirements

•   Penultimate year undergraduate student (studying a relevant degree) or second/third year apprenticeship student equivalent

•   Enthusiastic individuals with contemporary values

•   A motivated interest in Law

•   Ability to communicate clearly and comprehensively with a variety of audiences

•   Solid IT skills; proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint 

•   Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships

•  Excellent collaboration skills

•   Effective at following instructions

•   Team player with strong interpersonal skills

•   Ability to read and digest large volumes of information demonstrating attention to detail, critical thinking and problem solving

•   Analytical skills.
