Description

We have ambitious net zero targets, and our business is growing to help us achieve our strategy. We're looking for students who can bring fresh ideas, new skills and creative thinking, to deliver innovative solutions to help us reach net zero. This is an exciting time to join SSE, you have the power to make a change and help us build a better, more sustainable world of energy for you, your family, the community you live in and for generations to come.

Our summer placement students work collaboratively in a variety of contexts, while also taking ownership of their role by working under their own direction to drive action forward. There will also be networking and presentation opportunities, specialist sessions and support from our graduates.

Area of Responsibilities

Responsibilities

Our Enterprise summer placements provide real hands-on experience through a 12-week placement in our Environmental and Sustainability team. We help to deliver low carbon infrastructure such as EV Charging Hubs and Solar & Battery projects in a sustainable manner. You will be working as part of the team on key topics such as carbon footprint calculations and reductions, biodiversity net gain planning, environmental and waste management system improvements, and social value accounting. Throughout the placement, you will have the support of a business mentor and buddy who will provide guidance to enable you to reach your full potential.

Requirements

You’ll have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long-term future with us, as often candidates who join us on summer placements consider joining our Graduate Programmes after graduation. We would love you to have some knowledge of:

  • UK Net Zero Strategy
  • SSE Net Zero Strategy
  • MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Teams, Visio, Project)
  • Excellent written / verbal communication skills and a can-do attitude to new tasks.

Ideally, you’ll already have, or be on track to achieve, a minimum 2:2 degree in an Environmental, Sustainability, Carbon or similarly focussed subject. Our opportunities are open to students who are entering the final year of their degree in September or those who have already graduated.
