Description

AIG’s summer interns are immersed in the day-to-day operations of a fast-moving, global insurance company. You will gain valuable, hands-on experience and insurance industry knowledge during the 10-week program. As a summer intern you will work side-by-side with industry leaders on dynamic projects, with ample opportunity for challenges, learning and achievement.

After initial orientation and training, summer interns will join the AIG UK legal team, which offer a unique opportunity to obtain core technical knowledge and professional skills in a diverse and global environment. In addition to the experience acquired on the job, summer interns have the opportunity to hear directly from senior management, and participate in webinars, discussion forums and networking receptions.

As a Summer Intern, you will work closely with mentors and colleagues as you are challenged with meaningful, business-critical projects. Additionally, you will gain an understanding of AIG’s business and the role of GLCR, and you will be able to draw on this experience as you consider your future career plans.

Area of Responsibilities

Legal

Responsibilities

  • Provide support and assistance to in-house lawyers in the provision of legal advice to business partners.
  • Support the business in applying UK and European laws and rules.
  • Research various scenarios and points of law, providing reports to inform legal and business decisions.
  • Assist in drafting and negotiation of documentation relating to commercial &personal insurance and corporate business including: claims handling agreements, distribution agreements, sponsorship agreements, and/or similar business relationships.
  • Track, analyse and report on legislative and regulatory developments, as well as industry trends.
  • Liaise with in-house lawyers in other European jurisdictions when assisting on multi-jurisdictional arrangements.
  • Assist with pro-bono activity within the team
  • Other duties as assigned.

Upon finishing the internship, you may be considered for a full-time graduate trainee solicitor role beginning in summer of 2024, upon either: (a) successful completion of the Legal Practice Course (if this is your chosen route) or (b) for applicants who are currently in the penultimate year of their graduate degree upon successful completion of their degree and on the basis of solicitor qualification through the SQE qualification route.

Required:

  • Pursuant of Law degree (or Graduate Diploma in law), graduating in 2023 (with LPC to be completed during 2023/2024) or
  • Pursuant of any degree (or graduate diploma in law) graduating in 2024 (with SQE route to qualification)
  • Expected minimum 2.1 degree classification (and minimum of Commendation for those completing Graduate Diploma in law)
